I’m finally getting around to adding some additional cymbals and extra pads to the kit. So far just a Roland PD-8 and CY-5 both split off toms. Planning to add one more CY-5 at least.
For the kit I started with big bird, changed out the snare, and added a gong Tom and splash.
I’m already getting the “kit is too large” error, or whatever it is. Is this to be expected? Have any tips to get around this?
The strike module only has 200Mb for storing kit samples. If a kit is larger than that it will still load, and might play fine, or it might cause audible problems.
To get around it, start by un-assigning any instruments you know you wont' be using. Maybe tom rims, for example. If your kit is still too large, you can recycle instruments. What I mean by that is to pick a crash sound you like, and assign the same sound to all your crash cymbals. Then you can tune it up or down to make each one still sound unique while only using one instrument. I do that with crashes, but I also do it with toms. I will pick one tom sound I like (usually a mid tom) and assign the same tom sound to all the toms. Then tune each one up or down to match the size of the drum. By recycling instruments you only load 1 for the toms instead of 4, or 1 for the crashes instead of 2 or 3. The module only has to load the instrument once, which makes the kit smaller, and by tuning each one you can still have it sound fine.
